About Me!!

Hi! My name is Tapiwanashe Adelaide Chawafambira but you can call Tapiwa. I am from Zimbabwe and I currently completing my internship this year. I believe medicine is my vocation. It seemed every turn was leading towards this career and after some soul-searching and wonderful experiences I realized that medicine is the right path for me. It is the perfect avenue to combine my desire to take care of others, and skills I would gain are so practical for maintaining everyday well-being. There’s nothing more fulfilling than knowing you can make a change and having to do that for the rest of my life is bliss.
After completing my A Levels in Zimbabwe, I came to Algeria in October 2006 on a scholarship to study medicine. I went through a 6 months intensive program learning French, French being the official language. Afterwards I did my cycle pre clinic. The three years were exciting as I got to familiriase with the country and the learning system. They were followed by three years clinical rotations.
As a way to give back to my society and to gain experience, I did elective programs in Zimbabwe during my summer holidays. The difference in health systems between Algeria and Zimbabwe stimulated a strong interest in integrating the study of medicine with training managerial, financial and technical expertise in the healthcare field thus motivated me to implement an MBA degree specializing in Healthcare Marketing and Management to my MD degree.
I am currently an intern, completing my clinical rotation and MBA this academic year. I feel grateful to have had the opportunity to experience the vast field of medicine. I can’t imagine a more enriching educational journey. I created this site to document my experiences as a medical student doing a combined MD/MBA degree, helping me organize all the thoughts that I may have along the way, and to connect with my friends and family. I hope you enjoy my site as I share with you this exciting and challenging phase in my journey. Please leave any comments or suggestions that you may have and thank you for visiting My Medicine Journal!

Clinic Rotations

Infectious Diseases

I am almost coming to the end of my rotations and for a first rotation, i had a lot to learn from basic patient management, performing lumbar punctures, learning from the more experienced seniour doctors. Its been an amazing experience.
One of my seniors doctors attended a conference a month ago in France for RICAI(Reunion Interdisciplinaire de Chimiotherapie Anti Infectieuse) and he presented a very interesting subject.....The use of corticotherapie in leptospirosis with particular interest patients presenting with thrombopenia.
I will try to give a brief summary of Leptospirosis...professions at risk, clinique presentations, complementary exams and treatment.
